Welcome to Spy Robot, a website dedicated to Meccano's excellent range of Spykee robots.
Since it's creation by Frank Hornby back in 1901, Meccano has long been associated with high quality, traditional style, construction toys. While the Meccano Spykee range of robotic toys are certainly high quality and still involve some construction, they are far from traditional! Spykee Wi-Fi can be controlled wirelessly from the other side of the world via a computer with internet access, and can act as the ultimate spy robot with his built in video camera and microphone. While Spykee Vox features voice regognition technology - allowing you to turn on your tv, controll your iPod, and move - all with voice commands!
The range varies in price from around £20 for the Micro Spykee right up to £160 for Spykee The Wi-Fi Spy Robot. Each robot comes in a kit form and must be assembled by following the supplied instructions, some of the bigger models can be built in different configurations.
Fully programmable, the Spykee Vox is designed to listen and respond. Simply ask him to move and he will not only follow your order, he will also try to avoid any obstacles that he may encounter. He's compatible with your iPod Nano & iPod Touch (limited compatibility with other MP3 players) allowing you to vocally activate your music! Music can be played through his stereo loudspeakers, and he can even dance and flash his lights to the music. Other fantastic features include his ability to act as a universal remote control - tell him to turn the TV on and he will! To get the most out of the Spykee Vox you will have to connect him to either a PC or Mac via USB.
Possibly the most impressive robot from the range, the one foot tall Spykee WiFi Robot can act as your eyes and ears even if you are on the other side of the world! The ultimate Spy Robot, he has a built in video camera, microphone, motion detector and speakers. If he detects movement he can send you a picture via email, he can even act as a digital music player and Skype compatible VOIP phone! You don't even have to worry about Spykee's batteries running out - it's able to detect when it's power is getting low and return to a designated charging station!
Like the Spykee Vox, the Spykee Cell is compatible with your iPod Nano or iPod Touch. Unlike the Vox it's controlled via bluetooth using your phone. Thanks to it's built in video camera you can stream live images to your phone or take photographs. You can also control your iPod via your phone. Other features include voice distortion, light and sound effects. The kit contains over 160 pieces which can be used to create 2 robots, and is best suited for ages 8 years and upwards.
With 20 pieces and costing only around £20 the Micro Spykee is great for younger children (7 +). It's available in four great colours - green, lilac, blue and orange, and while it may not be as technologicaly advanced as the more expensive WiFi, Cell & Vox Spykees it still has it's fair share of features. It's remote controll allows it to spin and move forward on it's two rubber tracks. It also has light and sound effects including
